>The MAS is extremely restrictive on the intake side. Once headers/exhaust and K&N Filter Charger are done the MAS was one of next places to tackle. I looked at the VPC strongly and decided to go with an alternative from DealerAlt that offered more features and flexibility at about the same cost. >Tim Schur >'90/93 BEGI III >Raleigh, NC > okay, i know MAS is mass air sensor (or air mass sensor) but what is VPC and what alternative to it does Dealer Alt offer? how good are these things? by the way, since i am partly responsible for starting the thread that Tom asked about, my question about the CAI is this -- the CAI has owners retime their engines to 14 BTDC and add a 160 deg thermostat. each of these is a known and inexpensive way to get more power out of the Miata. the CAI also adds a free flow foam filter similar to if not identical to the K&N, i.e., more power. so how much does the CAI do itself? if all of the other items add 2-3 HP each (as sometimes advertised) that means the CAI only adds about 5-8 HP which is not much for the extra money it costs (though obviously, you can't easily find that HP elsewhere). also, we know from the calculations presented here that the "ram pressurization" effect is next to nil. i know that most people who have a CAI rave about them, and some have pointed out that they had the other cheaper fixes before they put in the CAI. but i'm interested that someone as knowledgeable as Miq says that the CAI does nothing for you. i'm 380 Miata message behind in my reading, so i'll try to catch up and see the answers to this. paul weissman 94a Simply Red aka Dr. Comet
