FWIW, Back about 10 years ago R&T ran an article on sythetics. The claim was that Mobil 1 and Amsoil were the best. They also talked about mixing synthetic with dino oil. As I recall, they felt the best deal for the bucks was to run 1 quart synthetic and the rest dino. In that way the cheap....errrrr...economically challenged got the extra protection and reduced friction on cold starts. All I know is that full synthetic in my Scirocco made for a horrendous clatter on hot starts, that went away when I mixed oils. You may as well mix your own, hard to say the percentage of syntetic to dino in all those "blends", at least you know what you're getting when you mix it yourself. On another Miata related note, am trying Prolong snake oil mixed with the dino Valvoline, although one AutoX is too soon to tell, the old nasty lifter noise on hot start after the third run is now absent...thats a nice surprise, still using the same weight as before for those inquiring minds out there.
