Keith: You can retrofit an AC on a miata. Mazda has an AC kit which is different for pre- and post- 94 models. The pre- 94 uses R12 and the post- 94 the new stuff (134 if I remember right). The problem is that R12 is more expensive and harmful to the environment than the 134. There might be some problems with availability of R12 in the future also. Anyway, I fitted an AC kit to my 94 miata, and it went very smoothly. It took me about 3 hours doing it leisurely. As far as if you need it, here in Columbus, I find it useful when it rains in the Summer which is almost other day. Pan
