Actually John, I believe the reason European cars come with feature regards the headlight cutoff laws that change from country to country. For example, if you buy a British (right hand drive) car and head over to France or Germany, your headlights may be aimed in violation of *their* standards. The switch allows a quick, simple fix. Min >John Freas (jfreas@gte.net) Electric headlight aim adjusters seem to be common on UK (and European?) cars. The intent is to allow an intelligent driver to easily adjust his lights to ensure they are aimed properly whether his car is lightly or heavily loaded. Remember, the European lights tend to have a sharp cut-off on the low beams, and if you load the car with people and luggage you end up with the low beams shining in people's eyes (without adjustment). I played with these adjusters on a rental Vauxhall Cavalier I had in Scotland last year - very effective! Unfortunately, our governments here seem to feel we aren't intelligent enough to handle the responsibility of using this sort of device... Regarding the Dakar (beautiful!), I have a different question about that panel - why would the electric mirrors control be located there, when we get a dash-mounted control (between the steering column and the dash light dimmer control)? *********************************************** * Minsoo Pak * * Director of Multimedia * * Ogilvy & Mather * *********************************************** * "Out the modem, through the router, out the * * firewall, nothing but Net..." * ***********************************************
