     I think you're right about a type 3 being a squareback and/or 

     notchback, but not 100% sure.

     

     The "Thing" is a type 181.

     

     Todd & Miatoy (who makes me a "type B" when I'm drivin' him.)

Type 1 = Beetle

Type 2 = Bus

Type 3 = I believe that's the Kubelwagen/Thing/notchback/hatchback/squareback.

     

I'm sure about the first 2.
