From: "Andy Whitlow" <whitlow@bristol.st.com> Subject: Synthetic oil Date: Thu, 1 May 1997 08:26:19 -0500
Hello all, I had my 1990 MX-5 serviced yesterday (72000 mile service, 70000 on the clock) and for the first time took it to an independent Mazda specialist rather than a main dealer. The standard of work was very good as far as I can tell, no worse than I get at a main dealer and I saved 90 pounds over the standard Mazda charge. Anyway, the reason I write is that the garage used Castrol Magnatec Synthetic Oil. The one noticable change is that when starting from cold the engine no longer clatters. I've never really worried about the clatter since I believe it is fairly common but this is a great improvement. Question time - Does synthetic oil need to be changed more often than standard oil? I've been told that it breaks down more quickly. Thanks for any advice.
