I can't imagine the bar being damaged by the buffeting of a windblocker.

It's a structural piece, and there's just not that much force involved.  I

think the plexiglas would give way before that bar bent.  



If there's no danger of the windblocker flying off, you should be okay.

Without seeing your setup of a diagram thereof, that's all I can say.
