Centrifugal compressors are typically designed to run at maximum efficiency over a rather small rpm range. There are better suited for turbo charger applications where the turbo rpm will remain in the proper range (once the boost comes up) and the actual boost will be a function of the air flow through the engine which will in turn be dependent upon the engine rpm. In the turbo application, the engine rpm and the turbo rpm are not 1 to 1 related as they are in a super charger (ie. a fixed engine rpm gives a specific SC rpm). John K...
