Subject: Why do we have that ledge behind our seats?

I thought I had it all figured out.  My wife and I went to Michigan in 

our '97 M, the car trunk was packed tightly, so I figured I would get 

away without buying anything over the weekend... WRONG! My wife bought 

an antique clock and discovered that we had plenty of room for it on 

the back ledge behind our seats.  Aaargh!  I wish the Miata was
