FWIW our 12-day trip from London, Ontario, to Lake Placid and down through the eastern states and back was a delight. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and helpful advice. We enjoyed the Blue Ridge Mountains once again, but the one new thing we did that was awesome was driving on the Chesapeake Bay bridge and through the tunnels, top down. It was fantastic! We were out there with no other cars and nothing but the water on all sides of us as far as the eye could see. The air, the sun, the sights, and the speed on this 18 mile bridge and tunnel system was indescribably beautiful. An amusing anecdote was that after an afternoon on the fastest, tallest, and scariest roller coasters that Cedar Point had to offer, Judy and I both agreed that driving the back roads of Virginia and North Carolina was much more fun. As for the valve lifter noise, as I said before we left, I would try out Castrol synthetic 5W-50 and let the list know how it worked. Well, it worked!! No noise whatsoever starting or after a hard drive. Mind you, we were never in weather more than 85 F, so I am still waiting for some really hot days to see what happens. This was very encouraging news for us however. Thanks again for advice on travel and for lifter noise advice. Richard and Old Red '90 (who is one cool, but unfortuntely wet, Miata)
