With cars there are always two types of safety, passive- and active. Passive safety being such as impact zones, seat belts, airbags etc., and active safety being the cars ability to "sneak out of" dangerous situations, meaning that the car wont to a 360 if you slam the brakes in a corner or do quick maneuvers to avoid obstacles etc.. I know the Miata's passive safety is good enough to pass government restrictions, that should count for something, right? When it comes to active safety the Miata is a lot better then many many many wonderful cars out there. I'd rather steer clear of that big elk that popped up in the middle of the road rather then waiting for a seat belt and a airbag to hug me when I slide into it with four locked wheels :) I know that's not always an option, though. People rarely mention active safety when talking about car safety. Espen
