Well, howdy everyone :) I guess a quick introduction is in order. I'm Neil, a soon-to-be (fingers crossed!) owner of a nice, shiny red '91 Miata. I live in Eugene, Oregon. First off, thanks for the *awesome* resources available at miata.net. I read someone's post about... "If they'd created a Capri.net, I would've bought that, instead!". True. If it weren't for the depth and breadth of the respurces on the net (and mostly at miata.net), I'd never think of buying this car. Now then, on to the subject at hand. Everyone is talking about ways to support miata.net. "Let the vendors pay for <xxx>, and give us a discount." Or, "Let users subscribe for $xxx a month." At the moment, neither of these solutions appear to be working for anyone on the net (except for porn sites). Has anybody thought about approaching Mazda? If so, stop reading, reply to me privately, and remind me that step one of a newbie's readings should be to read archives :) If not, read on... A partnership with Mazda seems plausible... 1) Mazda retains core audience & customer support with little monetary support. 2) Miata.net remains free, and remains the property of whomever owns it now. 3) It costs vendors nothing... although, any articles that say "Buy from <this guy>, and never from" may have to disappear. 4) The wealth of info compiled on Miata.net has to be worth quite a bit (not to mention the website address). The volume of users on this mailing list is testament to that. 5) Say: marketing surveys. (big companies love that stuff) Okay, so, it has some pluses. But it's another solution; perhaps the current Mazda website could simply mirror or host miata.net, hmm? More thoughts for the ether. :) Regards, Neil '91 Red, Stock, many miles (soon-to-be, I hope!)
