I usually try to have the engine at 2 - 3K prior to clutch engagement, depending on the situation. Higher if you downshift at an initially higher RPM. If the engine is not up to speed (idle, for example) the clutch will experience premature wear. Experiment with it a few times. The better it feels, the closer you are to righteousness!
