Ummm... no, I think more accurately, hysteresis is when an event, such as switch closure, takes place at one point during an increasing stimulus, but at another place during a decreasing stimulus. Some examples of devices exhibiting hysteresis are thermostats, schmitt triggers, and certain inductive devices.
