The lead article in the Sunday New York Times Automtive section was a review and comparison of four roadsters: the Boxter, Mercedes, Z3, and Miata. Each was rated in three categories. Perhaps not surprisingly, the review picked the Boxter number one overall. He liked the Mercedes quite a bit, though he thought it more a two-seater sedan than a roadster. And he absolutely hated almost everything about the Z3 except its appearance. He noted the extreme price difference between the Miata and the others. This was most noticeable, he said, in the fact that the other three had considerably more power than the Miata and more luxurious appointments. The Miata did, however, come in first in his "fun to drive" category. But we could have told him that, right. At any rate, Miatas did not come out as a cheaper but acceptable alternative but as a vaild and smart choice. Mark Azulita, 92 Mariner Blue
