I'm getting ready to go at my car with the whole treatment now that I've finally found a source locally for the Meguiar's bonnets. I'm using my trusty Black & Decker sander/polisher, but had a heckuva time finding stuff to fit locally. (It came with a 7" rubber backing plate and a wool bonnet.) Seems all the stuff carried locally was for either 6" buffers (D/A type) or 8" orbital buffers. Finally found them by going to a auto parts store which specializes in auto paint and body supplies. I had noticed the Meguiars pads were rather expensive (I'd seen $40+ ea. mentioned on some web sites.) Then I discovered this weekend that Meguiars makes 2 different types of pads...one with an integrated backing plate (just screws on your buffer) and that was the expensive one. They also make (and the part number is the same on both products) a velcro backed pad which is much cheaper once you buy the proper "hook & loop" adaptor. I bought the 7" 3M "Hook It" backing plate and 3 Meguiars foam bonnets for a total of a bit over $60. The bonnets were only $10.50 ea. and the adaptor was $29.95 Unfortunately, family holiday gatherings kept me fron getting into working on my beloved this weekend, so probably next weekend will have to do.
