One shot multivibrator: electronic circuit which, when triggered

by an input pulse of sufficient amplitude and virtually any width,

responds with a single output pulse of fixed pre-determined width.



Examples: 1 microsecond in, 200 milliseconds out.

          1 second in, 200 milliseconds out.



Further on hysteresis:

How about the analogy of a boy walking atop a teeterboard.  As he begins

on the ground, and walks up the slope, nothing happens until he reaches

a point PAST the center, at which time the board trips over.  Then, as

he retraces his steps back, again nothing happens until he proceeds PAST

the center to the other side.  It takes different inputs to change the

state of the board, depending upon which way he's going.  Hysteresis!
