Just a note about weight vs. fuel economy at highway speeds... When I moved this weekend, I had Baby completely stuffed with equipment. She was heavy enough that she actually ripped off one of her front mudflaps on a small bump. Jelly The Amazing Civic was also along for the ride, similarly loaded. The Miata got 370 km out of the first 23 L of gas. That's 231 miles on almost exactly half a tank. We were cruising at about 120 km/h (75 mph). I don't think I've ever had better economy out of the Miata. The Civic? Well, it was getting about half that :) The little 1.3 was gasping along, and chugging fuel to lighten the load. Usually, it's the Civic that sips lightly of the gas. So weight is not that big a deal on the highway. I just thought I'd throw in a real world data point. I have the receipts to prove it, too :) Keith and Baby, who's glad to get rid of all that. PS - in case you're wondering what she carried: PC in mini tower case Mac (7300) 17" monitor 14" monitor CPS 2000 printer midi keyboard controller 2 zip drives external hard drive 6" of paper files Rollerblades clothes for a week Evolution 3 car cover various work items keyboards, mice, cables for computers hardtop a bunch of other assorted odds and ends ------------ Keith's page de home: http://www.miata.net/keith Underground Miata Network: http://www.miata.net/umn ------------
