It was only a couple of dollars. The Miata Enthusiast Manual says to replace the spring, so I did. I figured it would be better to spend the extra dollars now, rather than re-do the timing belt if anything happened. Like you said, the tensioner doesn't do much. You loosen the tension pulley "lock bolt" after the new timing belt is in place. The tensioner spring applies the proper tension and then you lock the bolt down. The tensioner spring doesn't move after that, so I don't see how it can really get fatigued. Oh well... Joe G '92 Silver
