Prompted by an entry from Sonja: >"Yuppie" was derived for the word "Yippie", the >name of a group of protesters that became a >media hype during the Demo Convention in Chicago >in 1948 ... viz. "weathermen" "Chicago 7" etc... I am impelled to make two comments. First, Sonja, you have it wrong - "yuppie" was a phrase coined to describe Young Upwardly-mobile Professionals (as if anyone really cared), and Second, the quality of the discussions here has deteriorated drastically over time, just as the volume has increased. This used to be a place to trade interesting and sometimes even useful information about Miatas. It has degenerated into something considerably less, unless you are interested in hearing half-baked pre-college-type BS about gun control, to pick just one of an almost infinite number of irrelevancies that have shown up here in recent months. Pick your own. For my money, it has pretty largely become a waste of time - I look at it now in digest form and generally don't bother to read any of what shows up. It's too bad, because it used to be fun. But then, I guess things change, not always for the better. I'm still around, if any grownups want to stay in touch. But for the rest of it, I'm outta here. Frank (retires, grumbling audibly, into the back of the cave, rolling a huge rock into the doorway...)
