	How does Las Vegas sound?  Taking the Southern route will take a little longer 

than hyw 80, but you can hit the Grand Canyon and Vegas come over the Tehachipi's (sp?) 

and up the Valley on hyw 99 (boring!) then take hyw 152 (not too bad) to Monterey.
