I will tell you AOL is > a very underhanded organization. > <snip> I agree. When I bought my current computer, it came with a trial AOL membership. This was a long time ago, before PPP or SLIP accounts were widely available for internet access. I tried AOL, but stopped as soon as the free trial was up. Too slow, too buggy, no internet. The next month I get an AOL charge against my credit card. I had to physically call them (on an analog phone!) and tell them I wasn't using their system, and that I hadn't since my free trial was up. They gave me a hassle until I told them I would contest the charge, then they cleared it right up. I wonder how many people eat that charge? As far as chat rooms go, I've made some real friends on them. That was a long time ago, mostly on local systems, where we could actually meet and go out to eat and stuff. I've also wasted a lot of time on them. Never found the love of my life on one, and never tried. I think the kind of people you meet on them has changed radically since the early 80s. Used to be they were full of home computer geeks. Very fanatical, usually bright, mostly interesting. Sort of like Miata people. Today it's everyone, a good cross section of society, with the exception of the poor, who can't afford computers, and those who have something better to do with their time. Eric Hodges 96M "PIZZI-5"
