Ok, Minneapolis is different from the rest of the world in a lot of ways but cars and the people who drive them are one of the biggest differences of all. I have NEVER seen so many rust-buckets and old crappy cars in my life! They literally fall apart on the road, you can count at least three mufflers, good chunks of tailpipe, etc. on the street on my way to work every morning. That said, I think its definately more important to get the gunk (salt, ice, frozen road grime buildup, etc) off your car than not to, and the ironic part is that the state of Minnesota goes a long way to help you do this: 1. Most gas stations have brushless washes with good heated dryers. Its like a good hard soapy rain and say what you like but its great for those "twice-a-week-get-the-grime-off" touchups. 2. Most houses, apartments, condos, etc. have heated garages with drains for those 3 or 4 times/month you need to really wash/wax/buff/etc. 3. All coin-ops here have big garage doors and they're heated so you can use this option as well. Understand that most Miatas here run with hardtops in the winter so softop damage is not a big worry. This is my second winter and my car looks just as good as it did in Houston... my two sense, kjw & ICE-CUBE
