This probably falls into the category of bench racing, but the Saab Rally

drivers used to have problems with the timing advancing so far that the

engine would try to reverse directions. This was in the two-stroke Saab

days, IIRC. So yes, I think it's possible.



To intentionally change the rotation of the motor, there's usually a cam

regrind involved, though. Running a motor backwards will give you some very

strange valve timing. (This is why two-strokes run backwards so easily)

Distributorless igniton, with the waste spark on what should be the exhaust

stroke, will make running backwards much easier, though. ;)
