From: dataylor@tracy.com (Evelyn & Dennis Taylor) Subject: Wine Train Dinner for Sears Point (long) Date: Fri, 2 Jan 1998 06:22:46 +0000
Ok Everyone, Sorry for the bandwidth for those not interested. I talked with the Wine Train Reservations people, they do have a group discount, but unfortunately we will not be able to take advantage of it. It only applies to the weekdays. It is not applicable on Saturdays. So the price for us would be $69.50 per person. There is a dress code. For the Dinner train they suggest men wear a jacket, and women dress the same as if they were going to a fine restaurant. The train boards at 5:30pm and returns at 9:00pm. The trip is approximately 3 hours. The price includes the following: Service charge, sales tax, and train fare. Gratuities are also figured into the price by way of the "European" system. It is a service charge of 12% added in leiu of the gratuity to provide better wages and benefits for all the employees. Coffee, tea or decaf is included. Wine, cocktails and other refreshments are an additionl charge and are subject to 12% service charge and state sales tax. So if you want wine with dinner and cocktails on the trip, it will be extra. ---- The dinner car seats 200 people. Dinner is done in two seatings. The first seating, Passengers will spend the firs half of the trip in the dinning car for the sou/salad and main course for the northbound trip to St. Helena. The second half, about 1 1/2 hours later, will be spent in the Lounge Car for the dessert and coffee on the return trip. Second seating will be escorted to the dining car for the return trip and have Soup/Salad, main coarse, and dessert and coffee there. Sample Menu: Chef's Appetizer Selection Seasonal Young Lettuces with Hazelnut and Sherry vinaigrette and Cambozola Cheese. Harlequin Sorbet Your choice of: Fresh Sonoma Chicken, Fresh King Salmon, Fresh Sonoma Lamb, or Roasted Certified Angus Beef Tenderloin. Dessert (daily specials) They also have a Low-fat/no oil vegetarian menu upon request. ---- I don't need to make reservations this far in advance. They said 1 month in advance will be sufficient. I will probably make the reservations by the end of the first week in April. So far I have 7 people interested in going. I will send out another post just before I make the reservations, sometime in late February/early March to ask how many others will join us. At this time I will also ask which seating everyone would prefer, and I will also include the date I will need the money by. That's all for now on this subject. Remember I will send out another post just befor making reservations.
