I went to the Portland Auto Show Saturday night and got to see the 99 Miata. They really did do a nice job on it and it does look much better in person. A little more shapely, a little smoother and cleaner in appearance. They did a nice job on the headlights but I personally will still miss the Barn Doors. But that's OK, because it gives all of us who choose to keep our M 1's a little something different that you can't get anymore. And all of those that don't like the Barn Doors something to look forward to. I can't see myself running out to buy one for quite a while though. Maybe not even until the M 3s are offered. (Hoping for an improved projection light version of the Barn Doors to be introduced =)) I just like my 93 too much. But if I do some day, it's nice to see that the 2nd generation Miata is carrying the torch in much the same manner as the 1st generation has. They had a Hard Top for it there stuck in the back of a Mazda pick-up truck. I checked it out pretty carefully and I couldn't see ANY difference in it what-so-ever despite the fact that it's supposed to be much more re-inforced compared to the current one. If it is, the re-inforcements are completely invisible from what I could see. It looked exactly like my 93 Hard Top inside. I did pay special attention to the oil guage and it was a fake. As much as we don't like the fake oil guage, I guess we should't complain too much. When I looked at the Z-3, it didn't even HAVE one!!! At least we have something to work with that can be fixed with a simple guage face replacement! Ernie Scheidl 93 Base Phredd
