Jason: The same thing happened to me on my 97. You do not want to drive the

car as is, because the exhaust will start to melt all the plastic in the

area. I spent several days trying to get this fixed by my local dealer. The

claimed, at the time, that there were no mufflers and tailpipe assemblies

in the U.S. They also told me that they would not weld the tailpipe back on

as this would void the warranty. In the end, they removed a tailpipe and

muffler from a new car on the lot. They also had to replace some of the

plastic around the wheel that had melted. I had to get Mazda customer

service involved to get this resolved.
