From: mrmiata@icx.net (scott and woody) Subject: Question about RB nose, etc... Date: Mon, 2 Feb 1998 18:10:09 +0000
I have a couple or more questions about the RB nose and some other attendant bits and pieces. Here's the story: My boss's wife drives a '96 Black PEP. She was rearended by a dump truck a few months back. Well, with all the insurance finagling they have finally gotten their check. My boss is adding stripes to the car. Many involved in the prior black car stripe discussion will be delighted to hear that he is going to go subtle. He's getting the entire car repainted with a basecoat/clearcoat. Before the clearcoat goes on he's going to have the stripes taped off at 8" wide with a 1" gap, just like Woody's. Here's the kicker. He's going to have the stripes done in clear pearl. The only way you will really be able to tell they are there will be to look at them in bright light at certain angles. Ghost stripes!! I LOVE IT!!! Anyway, he wondered if those that have the RB nose (the one with the openings on either side of the mouth) think that it is worth it. He has decided that he should go ahead and do his mods before the car is painted so that he doesn't have to have it repainted again later. He is concerned about the low nature of the nose and the appearance of the profile of the car. He doesn't want a nose- heavy look to the car. He is thinking about putting mudguards on the car and either the RB rear bumper or the factory rear air dam. The RB bumper is kinda cost-prohibitive, but he is seriously wondering whether the factory dam will make the car look proportionate. so, here are the questions: 1) Is the RB nose worth it? 2) Would you go with the RB bumper or the rear dam, cost considered? 3) Is the rear air dam a pain in the ass to modify to fit with the mudguards? 4) Whaddaya think about the ghost stripes idea? I think it sounds way cool. BTW, this car will most likely be at the Gap, so many will get to see it in all its ghosted glory. And the body man (his father-in-law) said the Miata paint has to be one of the crappiest paint jobs he has ever seen. I must agree, but I like Woody's light weight paint job.
