From: STELLA GORNICKI <scubakitty@home.net> Subject: Aftermarket Brake Handle Installation Date: Sun, 1 Feb 1998 18:03:26 +0000
A few days ago, I got my Voodoo shift knob and brake handle. Installation of the shift knob was "intuitively obvious", as they say - just unscrew the old, screw on the new. But, I was stymied by the brake handle. The Voodoo has a setscrew, but the stock handle seemed to have no obvious means of removal - no screws, no secret "push here, and I let go" sites. In desperation, I e-mailed Bill at Dealer Alternative, and he suggested that I could either cut the old one off, or twist it free. Since I like to hang on to as much of the stock stuff as I can, I elected to try the "twist-off" approach. Now, Bill HAD warned me that the stock unit is glued on, so I anticipated some difficulties. Yup, it was stuck on tight, all right. So, here's the point of this missive - pull out your old, ecologically-insensitive, one-Megawatt hair dryer, and BLOW, BLOW, BLOW!!! After a while, the glue gets nice and gooey, and you can (still with a bit of effort) twist and pull the stock unit off. By-the-way, the effort IS worth it - the matching knob/handle look so very cool. Can't wait for the weather to clear - I wanna see them glinting in the sun with the top down....
