I agree. Last year we had a young boy scout on a bycicle killed by a
pick-um-up with a drunk and a canning jar of booze between his legs.
Seems he wandered off the road while trying to keep his liquids from
splashing out... The boy was thrown 20 yards up into the area where we
hold our meetings. One of our scouts kept the injured alive with CPR
until the ambulance people took over. The boy died an hour later in
hospital. The drunk, with two other convictions was sentenced to
counceling, 5 years probation and multi thousands in fines. The boy's
mother? Well, after paying out the nose for a funeral now gets to drive
by the spot every day on her way to work and once a week see all his
buddies out playing touch football on the Scout Hut lawn. This guy
already owed the county about 6-7 thousand in fines and was trying to
pay them off on time.
I believe an automatic confiscation of the vehicle driven by a drunk
should be the first move. What do you mean you have to get to work. Go
out and buy another vehicle, then. and drive this one sober.
Soapbox kicked over...
