I would have thought that having chosen and purchased a Miata would be a more
than sufficient commonality! If that is not "something in common", then what
is? And, yes, if one is only willing to join *after* someone else has created
the niche of interest one was seeking in the first place, I stand by my
original position, one is the type of person who waits for others to do the
pioneering and then comes to enjoy the fruit of their labor.
