| Subject: | Speedo Cable Serviceable? |
| Date: | Sun, 1 Mar 1998 15:05:40 +0000 |
One of our CFMC members has a '90 with a fluctuating speedometer
reading. I suspect the cable needs lubricated or replaced. I know
the bottom of the cable connects into the side of the gearbox with
a knurled ring, but I do not know if the rotating center of the cable
can be withdrawn and lubricated or replaced from beneath the car
if that connector is undone.
Access to the back of the speedometer looks pretty tight. Removal
of the cluster looks pretty daunting as well, though I know some
do it. I'd like to avoid that, 'cause I don't want to mess up
this individual's car learning how.
I have searched the archives, and found only a query or two about
the serviceability of the cable - no responses.
TIA for any info.
