No one involved with the '99 Event ever objected to caravans of Miatas coming to
the '99 National Event.

We have repeatedly welcomed Bob Hotaling and MAA to attend. The only objection was
to a simultaneous competing national event. Bob's e-mail of 9.3.97 stated he wanted
to "open a dialog with MCA, Mazda, media, sponsors, etc." and "Perhaps towards a
gathering in Orlando as previously proposed". Two national events competing for the
same people, the same advertising dollars, the same ad space, at the same time,
simply doesn't make good sense.

If MAA were moved to late in '99 we would would be big supporters of it as a major,
fully funded national event. If MAA is held simultaneous with the Birthday Bash I
hope it is just a bunch of Miata enthusiast joining together for a great drive to
and from the '99 National Event. That's a decision each of you will have to make.

If you chapter had committed it's self to giving way a $25,000 - $30,000 door prize
to one of 400 attendees you would be very concerned about any competition for
dollars, ad space or people. We NEVER objected to caravaning to Texas.

I would like to have a question on the registration form asking "do you want your
name, e-mail and/or phone # passed on to caravan organizer". This would have to be
cleared with our insurance carrier. Nothing would please us more than to have a long
lines on Miatas snaking their way to Texas.

I hope to see each of you arrive at the Hotel with a hundred Miatas behind you.

Top down, Revs up,
Gaylon
