As a reminder to others who would roast my butt (noun) over this issue, here's
a direct repost of my summary following my conversations with the National
folks that was posted Sep 11th, 1997. Please note that it addresses their
concerns about participation and fund sources impacts, clearly states my
sharing of those concerns, and identifies urging that the National be the
focus point and that MAA should support it as such.
Thank you.

Subject: Concerns--Miatas Across America (MAA)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi All;
Since my original post, I have been in contact with a gentleman from the
Texas Club hosting the 1999 National Event, May 6-9, 1999. In a
nutshell, there is some genuine concern that any "organized" event prior
to, or after the National might in-fact detract from the National.
Concern was also expressed that some groups may choose to stay home and
host an MAA pass-through vs. attending the National. And, there was
also concern that MAA might in some manner receive Miata.Net, MCA Mag, or
other support that could have been directed to the National Event. I
thank the gentleman from Texas for bringing these concerns to my
attention.
As the volunteer record keeper for these early and very preliminary MAA
discussions, I recognize and SHARE those concerns and just wanted to
surface them for your consideration as MAA proposals are made.
However, I still see LOTS of room for semi-organized bunch(es) of
travelers assembling on each coast (not to be confused with shores or
beaches), meeting up in Texas for the National, and then continuing
across America toward the other coast. And, there seems to be a good
deal of support for that concept.
The National, after all is THE focal point and MAA should support that
activity as THE NATIONAL serves as a catalyst for some wonderful Miata
travel and fellowship.
Keep the cards and letters coming! :>)
