Naw, not an April's fool joke...
had the recall done last night, I was lucky enough that the guys in the
service @ Marlin Mazda are really friendly and they spent a lot of time
with me explaining what the problem was and talking about other
maintenance stuff as well.
Anyway... I don't know if you've had this problem or will but you might
want to keep an ear out for vibrations from your door panels when
playing music with good base in it with the BASS set on maximum (this is
with the BOSE system that comes in the Leather package and is optional
on several other packages, don't know if the standard will have a
similar problem). My car was absolutely perfect for about 15 days and
then the sound started deteriorating as annoying vibrations started
coming from the doorpanels. I showed the service guys and they
immediatelly acknowledged the problem (I know that's normal but my last
experience with mazda service was with some a$$hole manager from Ed
Morse Mazda who wouldn't admit there was a problem with the CD-Changer
in the '97 I leased last year) and would have taken care of it at the
time if it weren't for the fact that it was past closing time at that
point.
At any rate they said they would need to take the door panels off and
put some additional insulation where the panel touches the door, when I
get around to bringing the car back there and have it done I'll report
back with my impressions.
One last thing... last nite leaving the dealership I see this beautiful
laguna blue '94 RX-7 next to me and as I look closely it's a buddy of
mine I had lost touch with... so we stop by a McDs and chat for a
while... I was surprised as he had been a "Jeep kinda guy.." at any
rate, Snowwhite was parked right next to (about one yard apart) his
beautiful car... and HOLY FREAKIN' SMOKES... now I know why I like
SnowWhite soooooo much (I've started doing triple-takes now... YESSSS!)
it is absolutely amazing how much the M2 has taken from that beautiful
design from the 3rd gen RX7... the sides of the car are virtually
identical... the whole area around the back wheels is a photocopy... if
you stand between two cars and look toward either the front or the back
(you want to be far enough back where you can't see the headlights on
the M2 when you're looking towards the front) you will be hardpressed to
see any noticeable differences! Now I understand why before installing
the Knobmeister car badges right behind my front wheels I was getting so
many people asking me when the new RX7 convertible had come out. By the
way, the Knobmeister badges look really awesome when placed properly, I
would highly reccomend them (and we all know what a great guy Joe is).
Oh, and congratulations Gary on your new '99 and on your gorgeous Max!
I really like the idea of both cars in the Miata of The Month!
