Subject:airflow meter fault - need help
Date: Fri, 1 May 1998 02:22:44 +0000

I took my wife's '91 in for its biannual emissions test today, and was
amazed when it failed due to excessive CO. I've since hooked up the
diagnostics connector (paperclip :->) and I'm getting code 8 (airflow
meter) and either code 1 (ignition pulse) or 10 (intake air thermistor in
airflow meter), probably 10 (how do you count zero flashes of the Check
Engine light, anyway?). The car appears to be running fine otherwise.

I'm tempted to try swapping airflow meters between the my '91 and hers and
then getting her emissions tested again to see if that fixes it. Assuming
that's the case, can anyone tell me what a new airflow meter costs? Are
they repairable? Would it be worth checking out MazMart? Is there anything
else I should check before I take it in for service (which I really don't
want to do if I can avoid it).

Please cc: replies to me directly as well as the list as I'm in digest mode
and would like an answer to this ASAP.

Thanks in advance.
