I was ever so slightly dissappointed in the response to my suggestion of
a national tech meet. The handful of replys I got included;
Too far
too cold
won't drive Miata in winter
would go if event was in my backyard
Not one reply(except possibly Sonja) gave unqualiied support. Kinda a
shame, since other clubs do these with great success.
In case I was not clear, here's the concept: A three day event, held in
a good sized hotel, where Miata enhusiasts can go to learn and discuss a
wide range of technical topics, from maintainance to max power turbos
and blowers. 72 hours of tech, tech, and nothing but tech. An ajoining
ballroom would be filled with vendors and displays. All the top Miata
merchants there to shop. Throw in a banquet, and maybe a cocktail party
or two and you get the idea. Ever wonder how a showroom stock Miata is
set up? Ever watch an aftermarket ECU setup? These and many more strike
me as great potential topics. The suggestion for a winter date was
because:
It's east to get cheap space in the dead of winter
an indoor event doesn't depend on good weather.
what else do Miata people have to do November to March?
this timing would not clash with Holidays, graduations, club events,
driving schools or anything else.
The whole purpose here is a dedicated tech event; no rally, no cookout,
no driver's school, no show-n-shine, none of that. This is for the folks
who started the power list for more tech content, those who bitch about
having to register for a whole event to get to the vendors, for all
those hopelessly obsessed with Miata mechnics.
Still I know it won't be easy. I've done these events before and they
take lots of work. If, in fact we want more of a club than MCA drops in
our laps, somewhere along the line we'll have to work for it. Otherwise,
we have no right to complain. We have the club we deserve.
