FYI, a few folks on the list seem to share my sentiment that the exhaust tip
on the JR Sport exhaust is obscenely large -- comments as to negative
correlation of exhaust tip size & other "metrics" notwithstanding. Some of
you will no-doubt feel this (defacing a JR exhaust system) is nearly
blasphemy, but to each their own.
I pulled the exhaust off of the car last night & took a hacksaw to it. Cut
the tip off ~1/2" from where it's welded to the exhaust.
For a temporary replacement, I went down to the local auto parts store &
bought a 2 1/4" pipe w/the end flared to 2 1/4" ID. I cut the pipe to length
so it just peeks from the rear valance -- I then painted it w/some hi-temp
black bbq paint:)
This slips over the end of the JR system nice & tight.
My hunch was correct -- the system is noticeably *quieter* w/the straight 2
1/4" tip. If you take a look inside the JR tip, you can see the pipe is
swiss-cheesed, and then it flares to nearly 4" at the exit -- it appears to
act as a megaphone. The note w/the new tip is a bit higher, but ~60-70% as
"loud". I'm very taken w/the sound.
Next: I might scout around to find the same pipe in stainless, but for now
I'm set.
This is just the mod for folks who want to marry the high quality & flow of
the JR system w/a more stealth look & sound.
