I ran Texas World several times before coming out to the west coast; it is a
great track - very wide with lots of run off. It would not eat cars like SP
did. It's quite easy to roll a car there as people go off sideways and get
caught in a rut in the dirt. Essentially the twin of the Michigan 2 mile
superspeedway, the (new) road course runs inside the oval. However it has
nowhere near the character of either Sears Point or Laguna Seca - no
scenery, no elevation changes etc. Lap times would be about 1'30" 'ish vs.
approx 2 mins for LS. Costs are much better than LS, I seem to remember
spending $40-$90 for entire days driving there - i.e. stay out as long as
you like - no twenty minute sessions. I corded one set of brand new tires
and went through a lot of gas the first time.
It can get a little warm and humid in summer, and somewhat damp in the
spring. It is also 1900 miles from San Jose if anyone was thinking about
driving there.
