my '97 AAHHRRR developed a noise like that when it had about 2500 miles on it.

I don't have the car here to look at, but there are some BMF bolts that
hold the front subframe/kframe (what the motor sits on) to the
'chassis/unibody'.  They needed to be tightened REALLY tight.  That fixed
it (thanks to rick and hector at PR motorsports).

it made the clunk while hitting the brakes hard after accelerating hard.

oh, and this clunk is not in the FAQ.
