That's why it says "NMC" in the subject line. "No Miata Content." Just say
'no' and hit the delete key!
Besides, it's not a war; it's simply a discussion. No one has been calling
anyone names or even insinuating that someone else is stupid or ignorant. It
has been a polite discussion for those who wish to read and/or participate.
It began in response to one list member's request for information. It is
possible that he and/or others have learned much from this thread. Not
everyone knows as much about computers as do I or some of the other
contributors to that thread. Each contributor made valid comments worth
reading by those interested. Some comments were clearly opinion-based, but
they were still valid and in the realm of reality. No one was making
outlandish claims not based somewhat in truth.
But whenever you have competing systems, Mac versus PC, Neon versus Miata,
Mustang versus Camaro, etc., much is based on personal opinion and
preference, so people aren't wrong for making one decision over another.
When I first started dating again, I went to lunch with a divorcee who had
purchased a Mustang convertible for "post-divorce therapy." I was picking up
my Miata the next week, so I knew she had made a different choice than had
I. But I never once thought she made the wrong choice, just the wrong choice
for me! She needed a back seat, however small, and liked the appeal of a
Mustang. I like them, too, but I like Miatas much better.
There are many threads in the list that I don't care to read. Some are Miata
related; some are not. I have learned to simply delete every message with
the same subject line without even opening it to read. I can even sort by
thread and delete them all at once so they don't appear at all in my inbox as
I go through it. Some I find to be quite annoying and out of place here, but
this is an unregulated list. We can discuss what we choose. If we Miata
owners want to discuss our preference of Diet Coke versus Diet Pepsi, that is
within the scope of this list.
The only thing that is inappropriate, as I understand it, is non-Miata
content from non-Miata owners. In other words, spam advertisements from
non-list members. If you want to flame these emailers, be my guest. I
usually send them a polite email message telling them they are not welcome on
this list and their spam is unwanted. I send it directly to them and not to
the list as a whole so as to not increase the bandwidth consumed by the
spammer in the first place. If each list member did this, they would be less
likely to spam our list again.
In any case, it's just my opinion. Ymmv.
