Subject:Brake Replacement Advice Needed
Date: Mon, 3 Aug 1998 12:29:51 +0000

I need to replace the front brake pads on my '94R with 35k miles. (I
discovered that the squeal I started hearing last week was the brake
wear indicator. I didn't realize they squealed when you weren't on the
brakes.) I have two options:

1. Purchase the brake pads from a Miata.net sponsor and have a friend
replace them for me. If I go this route, should I just buy the Mazda
stock pads or go with another brand? At this point, I only use the car
for street driving.

2. Go to my local (and reputable) tire shop. For $169, they will
resurface the rotors, replace the calipers and flush the brake system.
They use ACI rotors and Raybestos pads. Is this overkill or necessary?

Any advice will be welcome. I'd like to make a decision yet today, as
I'm hoping to get the brake job done before a club run this Saturday.

Thanks!
