List,
I've been meaning to write this for some time, but now I have a chance
to articulate myself without getting too upset...
Recently, in Sport Compact Car, I saw a Civic or CRX...I forget which,
that sported something in the neighborhood of 433 hp to the rear wheels.
Now the article didn't show the car in motion so I am wary of any four
cylinder car making that much power...and they claimed it was street
legal!!! The setup seemed normal...if you consider turbo, nitrous as
being normal.
Another article was a 400 hp Mr-2. They said that they were in the
neighborhood of 30 psi on the aftermarket turbo.
I have pretty much come to the conclusion that SCC has inflated their
numbers or something in order to boost (pardon the pun) sales to the
younger kids who I run into almost daily who say that they can get their
civics in the 12's without beefing up the bottom end. When I try to
explain real life racing, they just don't seem to listen of care what
you have to say...it was in the magazine...it must be true. The folks
who run civics in the 11-12 second range could spend the same amount on
a z-28 or a c-5 and be running in the 9's...correct me if I'm wrong.
Perhaps what I should do is put a FM on the car and a 500 hp direct
port NOS, call SCC and tell them I have a 720 hp at the flywheel miata
and let them put it in their magazine. Don't worry, I won't let them
drive it to confirm any facts...they can only look at it.
