Tim,

This problem was sorted out by Miata.net in the early days. Quite by
chance, apparently, someone found out that the roof actually folds down.
After that no-one bothered driving with their heads out the window.
(This, of course was bad news for the guy that had developed a Miata
fly-proof tooth+mouth protector, I think that he went bankrupt.)

My car came with the roof already down, so I haven't had your problem so
far. I think once you have put it down, you can put it up again, but I'm
not sure. There must be instructions on Miata.net for this, but I
haven't bothered looking yet.

No it's not normal, Only Ace Ventura does this  ;-)
