Subject:Fuel gauge not working correctly

   Hello, I've been having sort of an odd problem since installing
some gauge rings in my '97.  After removing the clear plastic gauge
cover I played around with the gauge dials a bit.  The next
time filling my gas tank the fuel gauge would not go past the half way
mark.  I've driven the car through several tanks of gas since then (using
number of miles driven as a rough indication) and the problem still
persists.  Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?  Please respond
