I don't think it much matters how close it "looks" to a Miata driver.
Tailgating is tailgaiting when they're close enough to count the bugs
on your bumper.    I drive a 77,000 pound concrete mixer 12 to 14
hours a day, 5 days a week & the nuts will ride my butt too.    The
funny part is how close they pull up to you at a stop light.     They
stop right under my discharge shoots..........if I take off too hard I'll
slop concrete on top of their hood.    I haven't had that mishap as
of yet, though.      The scariest thing is when they get in a hurry,
nail the gas, shoot around you, then slam on the brake in order to
make a turn.    Big trucks have big brakes but, that doesn't mean
they stop faster...........they don't want to stop at all.
