If it needs topping up that regularly you probably have a leak somewhere. Your braking performance might also be suffering. 
Check out all the lines, or have someone competent do it for you.

Thanks to all who responded about my possibly low brake fluid.  I checked it
last oil change but I'm due for another and it was toward the bottom end of
the fill cylinder.  I'll top it off again today.
