Gee, it was a loooong time ago, but I seem to recall dimly that Fords
used to trigger the brake lights with a pressure switch, mounted on the
master cylinder. These failed fairly frequently, but were cheap and easy
to replace (gotta bleed afterward, though). From some vague ancestral
memory: look for a hex-sided fixture about an inch across, sticking off
the front of the master cylinder, with two wires connected to it. As a
test, touching the two wires together should fire the brake lights.
