I'm 6'2", and long ago discovered that the sun visors and rear view mirror on
my '91 BRG created blind spots that could hide intersecting traffic and
overhead signals. So, following the wisdom of the list, I first removed the
visors (didn't miss 'em a bit), then the header-mounted mirror.

At first I felt uncomfortable in close traffic, but once I figured out how to
best adjust the side view mirrors (this was the first time I _ever_ wished I
had electric mirrors), I had no visibility problems, and liked the clean
uncluttered look of the visorless, mirrorless windshield.

When I was at Gold Rush this year, I picked up a pair of Joe Portas'
VisorPlugs to cover the holes left by the visors. I wondered if Joe offered a
similar plug to cover up the mounting holes left by removal of the rear view
mirror, so I wrote Joe a short inquiry on Saturday, 11/21.

I was pleasantly surprised when Joe responded:

<< No plugs for R/V mirror .............yet..........
.............................I think I go outside to the Miata and
tinker around the windshield a bit ..................I think I will! >>

I got the "beta" MirrorPlug in last Wednesday's mail! One look brought a smile
to my face and had my long-suffering wife, Sandy, cracking up... Joe had sent
a personalized MirrorPlug engraved with my name, car description, "MX 5," the
Miata logo, the shift pattern and <LOL> Serial # 000001 and "Joseph P. Porter"
in script!!! Too much!

Joe even includes two black-headed replacement screws--he wrote, "Yes I am
including the screws as the bright "Gold" original screws look weird!" He's
right, the black screws look great with the black plug and white engraving.

Sandy and I also enjoyed the only slightly tongue-in-cheek directions printed
on the hang tag. I won't spoil your fun by posting them here--but suffice it
to say that OSHA-approved eye protection and clothing indeed are recommended
for installation!

All in all, Joe's come up with another fine Knobmeister product! ...and, for
being Joe's beta tester, I have a one-of-a-kind MirrorPlug!

Thanks, Joe...

P.S. Several months ago, m.flight@flinet.com wrote that he was trying to find
a reasonably priced "Cobra-look" rear view mirror that would fit our Miatas.

I tried looking for this item about a year ago. The only thing I could find
was a British repro of the Cobra mirror which retailed at >$200! HA! ...no way
I'm payin' that much for a mirror--I don't care how cool lookin' it is!

Anyone ever hear from m.flight concerning the mirror hunt? I sent him an e-
mail, but received no response.
