Not really. The strong Miata aftermarket allows Mazda to produce a lower
powered car that is favorable with the insurance companies while still
providing a car to power enthusiasts. If Mazda upped the power of the Miata
the insurance rates would increase and people who now enjoy the Miata in stock
form would not be able to afford it.
Mazda sells plenty of Miatas just the way they are. They will not change the
basic recipe for a long time.
The Computers in '96-'97 cars is strictly for environmental controls. Give
the aftermarket time, they will design solutions for these cars. The
aftermarket has designed solutions before and they will again.
